Moni Wears Pamela_P 2017
Wearing the Percivale core, Moni talks about the collection.
Where are you?
I’m in one of my favourite galleries in London, Tate Modern. I spend a lot of time here viewing the permanent collections when I’m looking for inspiration or just need a break. I’m particularly fond of the restaurant on Level 9, with its amazing views, as I used to take my son here for birthday lunches when he was small.
What inspired the core collection?
When I was working on the Pamela_P range I wanted to launch with one style in three different looks. The Core Collection, comprised of five colourways, was made first as it’s our staple range. The colours will be updated seasonally but the selection will remain classic. This way the bags can be worn with our customer’s everyday wardrobe. The actual shapes of all of the bags were inspired by my desire to create products that were gently curved, and comfortable to hold in the hand. The Percivale takes its shape from a section of the first style that I designed for the Pamela_P collection. It could be called the Vichier offspring I guess. It will be available for sale next year.
What processes do you use when creating your bags?
Our bags are handmade in London and we use a technique called Italian Quilting. However, it isn’t used in its original form as I’ve developed it further by using rubber tubing to form the distinctive ridges. You can read more on the Pamela_P method here.
Do you have a favourite colour?
I couldn’t possibly divulge that information and anyway I love them all equally! OK if you insist, at the moment I’m really loving the French Navy Core bag as it goes so well with my Camouflage pleat detail coat, navy and black silk satin shirt and my customised jeans that you can see in the photographs.
